Account Closure & Deletion
How to close your Vantar account and delete your data, what to do first, and what we have to keep.
Effective date: October 26, 2026 · Issued by Vantar Inc.
At a glance
- You can close your Vantar account at any time, in the app, on the web or by email. Closing is free.
- First, sell or transfer your investments and withdraw your money.
- We delete what we can. The law requires us, Alpaca and Wyrr to keep certain financial records for several years after you close your account.
- You’ll still get your tax documents for the year you close.
Before you close your account
Your account can be closed only once it holds no investments or money and nothing is pending. Here’s how to get there.
Step 1: Deal with your investments
You can either:
- Sell them in the app. Selling may create a taxable gain or loss.
- Transfer them to another broker. Start an ACATS transfer with the receiving broker, not with us. You’ll need your Vantar brokerage account number, found in Settings › Account › Account details.
If you transfer your investments:
- Fractional shares can’t be transferred, so they’ll be sold and the cash sent with your transfer or left for you to withdraw.
- An outgoing transfer fee may apply (see the Fee Schedule).
Step 2: Stop Auto-Invest, if you use it
Go to Auto-Invest › Settings › Stop Auto-Invest. Your portfolio will be sold, unless you transfer it instead. Your final advisory fee will be calculated to the date you stop.
Step 3: Cancel anything pending
Cancel open orders, recurring deposits and scheduled transfers, and wait for pending deposits, trades and settlements to complete. Stock trades usually settle one business day after the trade date.
Step 4: Withdraw your money
Withdraw your balances from:
- your buying power
- Vantar Cash
- your USD wallet
- your NGN wallet
Withdrawal fees and conversion fees shown in the Fee Schedule and in the app apply. Any USDC balance in your USD wallet must be withdrawn or converted first, as the Wallet Terms describe.
Step 5: Download your documents
Save the statements, trade confirmations and tax documents you want to keep, from Settings › Documents. Once your account is closed, you won’t be able to sign in. You can still ask us for copies later (section 8).
How to close your account
If you’ve already emptied your account, we will confirm receipt of your request and process it within 45 days, consistent with applicable law.
When closure may be delayed
We may need to delay closing your account if:
- you still hold investments or money, or have pending orders, deposits, withdrawals, transfers or settlements
- your account has a negative balance, or you owe fees or other amounts
- a deposit is still clearing, or has been returned
- a corporate action, dividend or interest payment is pending
- there’s an open investigation, complaint or dispute
- we’ve received legal process, such as a levy, garnishment or court order, or have a regulatory or legal reason to keep the account open
We’ll tell you what’s needed, where the law allows.
After your account is closed
- Sign-in: you won’t be able to sign in to Vantar.
- Tax documents: you’ll still receive tax documents for the year you closed your account. Form 1099 is usually available by mid-February and Form 1042-S by mid-March of the following year. We’ll send them by email, or you can request a copy from hello@vantar.co.
- Late payments: if a dividend, interest payment, sale proceeds or other amount reaches your account after it’s closed, we’ll send it to you using the withdrawal method you last used, or another method the law allows. If we can’t reach you, the law may require us or our Brokerage Partner to transfer it to the relevant US state as unclaimed property. You can then claim it from that state.
- Promotions: pending rewards or referral bonuses may be forfeited, as their terms describe.
- Community: your membership of the Vantar WhatsApp community isn’t affected. Leave the groups in WhatsApp if you wish.
- Coming back: if you want to use Vantar again, you’ll need to apply for a new account and complete verification again.
If we close your account
We may close your account in the circumstances described in our Terms of Use, such as:
- a breach of our terms
- suspected fraud
- a regulatory requirement
- a long period of inactivity
We’ll tell you where the law allows. If you don’t move your assets within the time we give you, we and Alpaca may sell your investments and send the proceeds, after deducting amounts you owe, to your linked bank account or by another lawful method.
If an account holder has died
We’re sorry for your loss. Please email hello@vantar.co with the subject line “Deceased account holder”. We’ll explain the documents we need, such as a death certificate and proof of the executor’s or administrator’s authority, and how to transfer or withdraw the assets. We’ll restrict the account while we do this.
What happens to your data
7.1 What we delete or anonymize
When your account is closed, or when you ask us to delete your data, we delete or anonymize information we no longer need, including:
- your app profile, preferences, watchlists and alerts
- marketing and analytics data linked to you
- push notification tokens and device information that isn’t needed for security records
- biometric data from identity verification, if we still hold any
We’ll stop sending you marketing, and keep a minimal record so we don’t contact you again.
7.2 What we’re required to keep
Financial services laws require us and our partners to keep certain records for set periods, even after an account is closed and even if you ask us to delete them:
We protect these records, limit access to people who need it, and use them only to meet these obligations, respond to regulators, and establish or defend legal claims. When the period ends, we delete or anonymize them.
7.3 Started but didn’t finish an application? Email privacy@vantar.co and we’ll delete your information. We may have to keep some verification and screening records if the law requires it.
7.4 Deleting data without closing your account. You can ask us to delete specific information, or stop using it for marketing, while keeping your account open. See your rights in our privacy policy.
Getting copies of your records later
After closure, you can ask for copies of your statements, confirmations or tax documents by emailing hello@vantar.co. We’ll verify your identity first. Copies of brokerage records may come from Alpaca.
Fees
There’s no fee to close your account. Normal fees still apply to withdrawals, currency conversions and outgoing account transfers. See the Fee Schedule.
